Increased Attraction for Foreign Investments in Ireland – Irish are ‘Happy’ People

The Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Jimmy Deenihan has recently claimed that foreign direct investments in Ireland are an attractive option for many global companies since the Irish are happy people. Mr. Deenihan spoke at the launch of the Science Gallery's programme for 2012 in Trinity College Dublin, and stated that the pleasant disposition of Irish people combined with the 12.5% corporation tax is part of the package that attracts foreign investments in Ireland. On another note, the 2011 IBM Global Location Trends Report reveals that the top destination in the world for foreign direct investment in terms of the value of the projects and investment it attracts is Ireland. South Korea, Taiwan, Austria and Switzerland follow Ireland in the global ranking, which reflects the high-value nature of foreign direct investments in Ireland, which is dominated by the life science and electronics industries. Singapore raced ahead of Ireland's ranking (top position last year) as the country with the most jobs created per capita through foreign direct investment. Foreign direct investments in Ireland have benefited the country by providing 195 jobs per 100,000 inhabitants. Recent investments in Ireland from companies such as Coca Cola, IBM, Intel, Google, EA and Facebook prove the point that foreign investments in Ireland are increasingly gaining popularity.
